Private Mental Health Hospitals in the UK
A lot of participants complained about the condition of mental health hospitals. The reasons for this included a lack of cleanliness and old buildings that were in poor condition and overcrowding with the lack of staff.
Private services often offer a wider range of treatments than the NHS. They also have shorter waiting lists and can provide immediate access to treatments.
Nightingale Hospital
The Nightingale Hospital is one of the most prestigious private mental health hospitals in the UK. private mental health care provides a range of services, including day therapy and an aftercare group. Clients will work closely with a therapist and psychiatrist. Additionally, the staff will give patients access to a dietician and OT practitioners. The staff will also offer patients access to a dietician as well as OT practitioners. The hospital is located in Lisson Grove, Marylebone and is easily accessible by public transport. Marylebone and Edgware Road stations are only a two minute walk away. It is also within a short distance of Paddington, St Pancras and King's Cross stations.
The government has praised the seven Nightingale Hospitals constructed by NHS consortia as a great success. The field hospitals were constructed at a cost exceeding PS530 million to ensure that local hospitals could provide the additional capacity required to treat patients suffering from severe illnesses. The field hospitals were constructed in only a few days by a group of experts who had military and NHS expertise.
It is now clear that the hospitals aren't being utilized in a way that is appropriate. The number of patients being treated in the field hospital is extremely small and NHS England has refused to reveal how many patients are being treated in each hospital. The head of critical care at the Barts Health Trust in London claims that the staff are "in an unimaginable state of suffering." She also claims she believes the exclusion criteria show that the hospital does not treat the most ill patients.
The Nightingale hospitals remain prepared to resume intensive treatment with 48 hours notice, despite the very low number of patients. It isn't yet known if the hospital located in Birmingham will be able to take on any more patients. The field hospital located at the Excel is being set up to become a Covid-19 vaccination centre.
Experts are divided over whether hospitals should be viewed as white elephants or the ultimate insurance policy that they did not need. But the truth is that the field hospitals have not been able to meet the demand, and that's not due to the inability of the staff. The issue is that there aren't enough beds or staff to meet the demand.

Priory Hospital London
In the past, the Priory Hospital has gained fame for treating celebrities with drink and addiction to drugs. The majority of its clinics in Britain are funded by the NHS and, in many cases, the taxpayers. Families are now suing the company for putting profits ahead of patient safety. Inquests found that basic mistakes, such as failing to recognize and correct existing connections and insufficient risk assessments, are leading to the deaths of vulnerable patients who are in care.
The Priory is one of the largest mental health providers however, it isn't alone in its blunders. Inquest, a charity, has spoken with bereaved parents of children and adults that died in the care of the Priory. It has revealed that the same flaws in assessment and observation are repeated time and repeatedly in private hospitals. They are among the reasons for failing to communicate with family members, ignoring their concerns, and ignoring self-harm risk.
It is not known whether the staff were aware the potential dangers and risk factors for suicidal patients and the presence of ligature point, or if they were recorded. Inquests have also revealed that a large number of Priory patients were not discharged in a timely manner, which can lead to dangerous situations, especially when the patient is in a crisis.
Inquests continue to reveal that despite the claims of Priory management contrary to what they say the same fundamental mistakes are causing deaths. For example, a woman died after she jumped over a fence at the Woodbourne Priory in Birmingham after being left unattended. She had an extreme psychotic disorder and had attempted to commit suicide earlier that day.
The NHS should learn the lesson of this tragedy and stop outsourcing its mental health care to private companies like the Priory which puts lives of the public at risk. The national inquiry launched this week by Steve Barclay, the health secretary, should include a review on the policy of requiring NHS to outsource their care. A national inquiry should also investigate the financial incentives that force the NHS to contract with private companies like the Priory Group that profit from the deaths of vulnerable patients.
